  • The Springfield softball team played in another close game last night, and came out victorious over Jacksonville 5 to 3. Tied 3 to 3 in the 7th, Milan Robinson got things started by getting on base, followed by a Mia Volpert double and an Erin Stoops RBI single to take the lead. Emma Marcum drove in the second run of that inning. Mia Volpert struck 17 batters in another strong outing while also earning her 700th career strikeout as a pitcher.

Congrats Mia and great job ladies!

  • The baseball team kept it close for 6 innings, but fell to the Crimsons of Jacksonville 5 to nothing yesterday at Lanphier Park. Brody Scheffler threw another great game on the mound, striking out 11 and walking only 2 while allowing only 4 hits and no earned runs in going the distance. Scheffler also accounted for the only Senator hit for the day to lead off the 7th, but it wasn’t enough to get the good guys back in the game. On the plus side, 7 team members were named to The National Honor Society on Sunday night. Congrats, guys! Next up is a 4:30 contest today against the Pioneers of U-High at Robin Roberts Stadium.

  • The soccer team defeated U-High 4-1 last night to improve to 3-0 in the Central State 8. Kamryn Hoffman scored 2 goals and Ainsley Lambert added a goal. Zoe Wall, Bridget Lyons and Addie Maddox added assists. The Senators got strong defensive efforts from Madison Clark, Rylee Clark, Emma Allen, Annabelle Bilyeu and Lydia Ruble. The Senators will host Lincoln on Thursday at 4:30.
